An example
The Chief of Staff reads the mail you've allowed it to read. A vendor asks for a signed contract by Friday, so it writes a note to your Vendors agent. On its next run, the Vendors agent drafts a reply and adds "sign the contract" to its list.
When you ask the Chief of Staff what's on your plate, it lists the contract with anything else that waits on you. Nothing goes out until you send it.
How it works
Each agent is a Cowork project with its own folder. You choose the agents and their areas during setup, such as Accounts, Vendors or Admin.
- Boards. Each agent keeps a list with Now, Next and Waiting.
- Notes. An agent that needs another agent writes it a note. The Chief of Staff delivers notes every hour.
- Hourly runs. During your working hours, the Chief of Staff runs on the hour and every other agent at half past. Each run handles what arrived and updates its list.
- Readout and reconcile. Say "readout" for where everything stands. Say "reconcile" to tidy one agent's list and see its questions.
Everything is kept as text files in one folder on your computer.
Limits
- Agents draft. They don't send email, accept meetings or spend money.
- The Chief of Staff reads mail, Slack and calendar only for the ones you allow. It doesn't reply, archive or mark anything read.
- Agents add and edit text. They don't delete files.
- If an email or web page tells an agent to do something you didn't ask for, it stops and tells you.
What you need
- A paid Claude plan: Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise. On Team and Enterprise, an admin turns on Cowork.
- The Claude desktop app, on a computer that stays on and awake during your working hours.
- A folder on that computer outside OneDrive, Dropbox and other sync apps.
- About an hour for setup. The Chief of Staff asks you questions and builds the rest.
Install
- Click Copy setup message.
- In the Claude desktop app, start a new Cowork task, paste the message and send it.
- Click Save plugin when Claude shows the file, then follow what it says.
Already using Office? First remove the Office plugin under Customize, then Plugins, and the birchpointswe marketplace if you have it. Your Office folder keeps everything. After the install, tell your Chief of Staff "I updated Office". If the update changed how the folder is laid out, it walks you through the changes. Otherwise your scheduled tasks keep running as they are.
